A Beautiful Garden Extension Adds Character To An Edwardian Terrace House

What y'all're looking at here is not a brand new gimmicky home but actually, an extension built for an Edwardian terrace house located in London, UK. It's a projection that studio Proctor & Shaw took on and which definitely challenged the team to come up with custom ideas and solutions for the specific requirements of their clients.

They wanted a new extension to be added in place of an existing solarium. This department'south function would be to create a smooth and natural connection betwixt the main house and the garden situated at the rear of the site. The challenge was that the garden was significantly lower than the current ground floor of the house.

After demolishing the old solarium and making space for the new extension, the architects came upward with a design that would allow the descent into the garden to exist gradual and to experience natural. They did that by giving the new section a terraced design with different floor levels connected by a series of stairs. That way the sloping design feels more than organic and natural but also suits the overall gimmicky look and experience of the new extension. They also gave this department a cool angular look with a clean and interesting geometry.

Custom windows were designed for this extension with unique shapes that are adapted to the athwart shapes of the walls and roofline. Some are quarter windows designed to fill the gap betwixt the walls and ceiling, brining more natural light inside in a mode that doesn't diminish the privacy. For the interior, the designers used soft and muted color tones, natural wood and plenty of copper in society to create a chic, modern and bright decor. This new department of the business firm is where the kitchen and dining expanse have been relocated. They're at present closer to the garden and they expect and feel a lot brighter and more blusterous and fresh than they used to.
